Manolis Manousakis
Biography & Background
Born in Athens, Greece (1975). He gained his footing in live theatre while in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to his time in Chicago, he was actively involved in both independent avant-garde theatre and popular theatre in his home country. Since then, he has consistently participated in film and stage projects, embracing a wide range of stylistic influences.
Career as Composer & Sound Designer
He has been working as a composer and sound designer since 1998. His work includes compositions for small ensembles, solo pieces, electroacoustic music, video art, and multimedia performances. He has also composed original music for theatre productions, documentaries, TV series, short films, and dance theatre performances.
Sound Design & Audio Projects
As a sound designer, he has contributed to feature films, documentaries, advertising, theatre, and short film projects. He has extensively recorded the natural and urban soundscapes of Greece and has taken part in major audio initiatives such as SoundscapesLandscapes, a sound walk project in the Athenian neighborhoods of Neos Kosmos and Keramikos.
Artistic Collaborations & Initiatives
He is a co-founder of Medea Electronique, a collective of artists, as well as the Koumaria Residency, an international artistic residency focused on interdisciplinary creation.
Current Projects
Figure of Sound is an ongoing project and sound library that blends creative sound design, soundscape recordings, and SFX.
